Catedral del ví - Modernista Celler

Modernist Winery

Visit Catedral del V

The Catedral del Vi, located in Pinell de Brai, is a modernist cooperative building from the beginning of the 20th century, designed by Cèsar Martinell, a direct disciple of Antoni Gaudí. It is an architectural gem of modernist character, included among the Wine Cathedrals of Catalonia.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the village of Pinell de Brai had a very large wine production and all the tanks in the winery were in use. At the end of the 20th century, most of the vineyards were removed from the village lands and, as a result, wine production fell significantly, directly affecting the activity of the cooperative winery.

The Modernista Celler brand includes four wine lines, always available in white and red varieties, with very different categories. We can find a young wine, the Modernista; a semi-aged wine, the Indià; an aged wine, the Gamberro, and a mistelle, the Gamberrillo. The wines can be purchased at the winery or through the online shop in boxes of 6 bottles.

Guided Tours

Although nowadays most of the tanks are practically empty, the machinery room is now occupied by stainless steel vats and modern equipment, where the current wine production is carried out. The main activity of the building is now tourism, with guided visits as well as wine and olive oil tastings held inside.
